THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COVER IN SHELTERS NIGHT AFTER NIGHT

THE HUMANITARIAN COORDINATOR FOR UKRAINE, MATTHIAS SCHMALE, STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE LATEST ATTACKS BY THE ARMED FORCES OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION IN KYIV, ODESA AND OTHER CITIES
Ukrainians have endured another night of violence. The residents of Kyiv have experienced terrifying drone and missile strikes by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The attacks reportedly caused more than a dozen civilian deaths and injured over 50 people. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure are damaged or destroyed throughout the city.
In Odesa, strikes reportedly caused multiple civilian injuries, also damaging a kindergarten and a centre for children with special needs—places where children should feel safe.
In Zaporizhzhia, attacks damaged residential buildings, terrorizing families in their own homes.
Local first responders, local authorities and humanitarian workers are already on the ground supporting affected families—providing emergency medical care and delivering essential supplies while assessing further needs.
The people of Ukraine should not have to cover in shelters night after night.
Each day, the war takes a devastating toll on civilians.
Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited under international humanitarian law. Civilians, including children, must never be a target.
We must not normalize the war.
