Today, as Ukraine celebrates Vyshyvanka Day, we honour not just a tradition—but a living tapestry of memory, identity, and resilience.
Each vyshyvanka tells a story. Woven into the fabric are the echoes of generations: symbols of strength, protection, love, and longing. No two are the same—each embroidery a reflection of regional roots, family traditions, and personal meaning. Just like the Ukrainians themselves: diverse in experience and expression yet bound by shared values and the enduring culture.
We celebrate this diversity. The United Nations sees strength in difference, unity in compassion, and resilience in the vibrant traditions that continue to flourish, even in the face of devastating war.
Together with our UN family member UNESCO, we will continue to support Ukraine in preserving and promoting its cultural heritage, supporting artisans, safeguarding intangible traditions, and ensuring that culture remains a source of strength and recovery. We will in particular support to talented people who are dedicated to preserving and amplifying Ukraine’s culture and traditions.
Happy Vyshyvanka Day!
