Ukraine will host the HeForShe Arts Week 2021
HeForShe Arts Week 2021 is dedicated to outstanding Ukrainian female artists, their inner strengths and talent, to ignite inspiration and creativity.
For the fourth time Ukraine will host the HeForShe Arts Week – an art marathon that brings together museums, galleries, cinemas and other art institutions around the themes of gender equality and human rights. The Arts Week will take place from 8 to 14 March.
This year theme for International Women’s Day is “Women in leadership: achieving an equal future”. That is why the HeForShe Arts Week 2021 is dedicated to outstanding Ukrainian female artists, their inner strengths and talent, to ignite inspiration and creativity.
In 2020, the HeForShe Arts Week hosted 15 events, and this year the calendar extends to more than 25 partnership activities. The HeForShe Art Week will take place in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr, Severodonetsk, Odesa and Soledar, many events will be held online.
The HeForShe Arts Week 2021 includes performances, film screenings, installations, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, video mapping and much more. You can find more information in the calendar on the dedicated website. During the HeForShe Arts Week 2021 historic landmarks will be illuminated in magenta color. Among them:
● National Opera of Ukraine in Kyiv;
● Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Lviv;
● Dmytro Yavornytsky National Historical Museum of Dnipro.
All venues will be illuminated at the same time on March 8 at 18:00. The headliner of the week is the Women in Arts Award organized in partnership the Ukrainian Institute. The winners of the Women in Arts Award 2021 in 7 nominations will be announced on March 12, during the closed award ceremony:
· Visual arts
· Music
· Theatre
· Film
· Literature
· Cultural management
· Cultural journalism, criticism and research
Original seven nominations were extended this year with a Special mention award to advance inclusion and openness of the Women in Arts Award. Special mention honors those outstanding women who may not be professional artists, but their contribution to Ukrainian culture is significant. This year Special mention award winner is a journalist, volunteer and veteran Valeria Burlakova.
