About the campaign

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. On this occasion, the UN is conducting a series of online dialogues with the civil society on topical development issues that are important for both Ukraine and the world. This dialogue will address the issue of hate speech in the current Ukrainian context.

To address the recent uptick in hate speech around the world, in the broader global context of polarization and intolerance, last year the UN Secretary General called on all UN agencies and country teams to increase their efforts to address and counter hate speech. In many places hate is moving into the mainstream, and confronting it is an imperative to prevent escalation into serious human rights violations and conflict.

At this online dialogue among the representatives of the UN in Ukraine and CSOs will discuss the issue of hate speech in out country’s context: how to identify, scope of the problem, how does it affect various groups, what can each person do individually to contribute to combatting hate speech. Working languages – Ukrainian, English (simultaneous translation). The dialogue will be streamed live to the UN in Ukraine Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/242058797114232; video recording will be available after the event. A separate live stream in English will be ensured (on the UN Youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/watch v=vYurHuydlFE&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=UnitedNationsinUkraine.
