WHO in Ukraine: new WHO representative – Silviu Domente

Today, 1 September, Dr Silviu Domente arrived in Kyiv to begin his work as the new WHO representative in Ukraine. He succeeds Dr Jarno Habicht, who led WHO in Ukraine for 8 years.
We are pleased to welcome Silviu to Ukraine and wish him every success in his new role. A trained medical doctor and surgeon, he holds a master’s degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Dr Domente has more than 30 years of experience in the health sector, including almost 20 years with World Health Organization. He has led WHO Country Offices in Moldova, Greece and Georgia.
We sincerely thank Dr Jarno Habicht for his 8 years of leadership of WHO in Ukraine and for his work during the health system transformation, COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale war.
Together with the new representative, WHO in Ukraine will continue to support the health system across three key areas: response, recovery and reform, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, partners and other stakeholders.
