New York, 25 September 2025 - The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) announced today the signing of a project agreement to help ensure quality medical aid for people living in crisis-affected communities in Ukraine. With a budget of over USD 5 million, the project focuses on procuring and delivering specialized medical equipment to four hospitals in the Kharkiv Region. It will expand their capacity for both in-patient and out-patient services, including surgery, trauma care, intensive care, diagnostics, and radiology. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians living in communities severely affected by the ongoing war will thus have access to quality medical services.

“The Kharkiv Region faces serious challenges related to the ongoing full-scale invasion by Russia. Ensuring that quality medical services are available to our community members and internally displaced persons is vital under these circumstances. At the Regional office for international cooperation, together with our international partners, we are implementing projects to restore, reconstruct, and improve conditions in Kharkiv Region’s healthcare facilities. We are grateful to UNOPS and KSrelief  for contributing to this process and supporting our citizens,” remarked on the occasion of the project’s launch Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Administration.

The project marks the first time KSrelief and UNOPS are cooperating in Ukraine. It builds on UNOPS strong track record of purchasing and delivering medical equipment globally.

“KSrelief is pleased to support the Ukrainian medical sector by partnering with UNOPS to provide the equipment needed to save and improve lives. We commend the dedication and commitment of health care professionals in Ukraine, who continue to do their best to provide the best possible care to their patients under extremely difficult conditions. Together with our valued partners, KSrelief, as the humanitarian arm of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will continue to work towards serving people around the world and providing hope for a better future,” noted Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of KSrelief.

The project will run for 12 months. The procurement and delivery of equipment to the four partner hospitals will be carefully managed by UNOPS, ensuring quality and transparency.

“This project reflects UNOPS’ commitment to both urgent humanitarian response and long-term development,” said Jorge Moreira da Silva, UNOPS Executive Director. “It addresses immediate needs in the context of conflict while also strengthening healthcare for the people of Ukraine. Together with KSrelief and local authorities, we are meeting urgent needs, restoring hope, and laying the foundations for a sustainable recovery.”

The four partner hospitals are located in Izium and Kharkiv. The equipment to be delivered includes scanning solutions, patient monitoring systems, and auxiliary items to ensure adherence to proper treatment protocols.
